FP8: Immersive technologies in higher education

Title of the panel: Immersive technologies in higher education

Conveners:

Lucie Rohlíková, Faculty of Education, University of West Bohemia, the Czech Republic

Petr Hořejší, Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, University of West Bohemia, the Czech Republic

Description of the panel:

Today’s societies are challenged with progressing digitization and its pervasive on nearly every aspect of our lives. As companies successfully implement digitization and embrace the 4th industrial revolution, higher education frequently lags behind. The objective of this panel is to examine the prospects and challenges of implementing, using and promoting immersive technologies in higher education. This includes mainly virtual and augmented reality training as well as best practices sharing. The conveners of this panel are interested not only technical issues related to this topic, such as prototype validation, industrial trainers, ergonomics support, etc., but also in social implications thereof. The latter might include soft skills training, virtual classroom, virtual reality assessment center etc. as well as healthcare, e.g. cue-exposure therapy, ergo-therapy, doctor/nurse/patient training and other. We would like to examine more views on immersive technologies in the higher education context; how is the subject taught, how it is researched, how it is applied.

The conveners welcome paper proposals that address (but are not limited to) the following topics:

  • Immersive technologies (virtual reality/augmented reality/mixed reality) in education
  • Serious games
  • Human/computer interaction
  • Visualization
  • Collaborative interactions
  • Modeling and Simulation
  • Digital Twins
  • Industrial use of virtual and augmented reality
  • Ethical and safety issues
  • Sustainability in higher education context
